We have designed and deployed a learning scenario where students act as designers of location-based games to learn about history. The students design games for each other using the SILO authoring tool, play each others’ games and then make a multimedia presentation of their experience and the places they have visited. In a trial of the learning scenario at Bergen Handelsgymnas the students engaged creatively in the activities. In a thorough review of a multitude of historical sources, the students created games that would lead teams of students through the Bergen city center in the historical context of World War II. Searching for places related to for example the illegal press, radio and the hideouts of resistance groups, they were able to experience and learn about history in a very vivid and lifelike way.
